On the subject of numbers, here’s a quick sum to hammer home the importance of taking action now.

Let’s say you retire at 60 and live until you’re 90.

You’ll most likely spend around a third of this time, or 10 years, asleep, leaving you with 20 years to do whatever you want with your life.

20 years is an awfully long time, but all this free time is meaningless if you reach retirement without a plan or the knowledge you need to sustain your lifestyle.

For instance, if I asked you, “How much money do you think you’ll need for retirement?”, or  “How much money do you think you’ll need to retire whilst also supporting your family and potentially your elderly parents?”, would you know the answers?

I wouldn’t expect you to give me a ballpark figure on the spot, but I would expect you to go away and carefully consider these questions so that you reach retirement age fully prepared for every eventuality.
